Matariki Explanation

WALT: Write an Explanation writing piece to explane to people why Matariki is important to New Zealanders.

This is my Explanation writing:

Why is Matariki important to New Zealanders?

In New Zealand we celebrate a time called Matariki. It is a special constellation that starts during early June. In the constellation, there are seven stars that shine brightly in the clear sky that we are lucky to have.

First, Matariki is a special time that we remember our deceased loved ones. This is a time where all of the family members come together to celebrate with each other and share myths that are passed down through generations in the family.

Secondly, there are myths that are told during Matariki to keep it exciting. The first one is that there are seven sisters who travel down to papatuanuku to share their knowledge with her. The other one I know is the brothers. One separated the Mother and Father.Tane (One of the
seven sons) get angry and pulled out his eyeballs and through them up into the sky and they are the Matariki stars.

Finally, Matariki is a time where we can begin growing some crops and harvesting some. We take the time to remember the gifts of the Matariki sisters such as Tupu-a-nuku. Her gift is helping us grow out crops and plants. She makes us medicine and clothing materials too.

Matariki is a beautiful time that family and friends come together to celebrate the comeback of the seven stars. We remember our dead family and friends who are watching over us.

The singing goat

The singing goat

There once was a goat
who thought he could sing.

He went to audition

when his phone went ping ping
The judges said you’re
not committed and unfit for this job.

He moved to Atlanta
and called himself Bob.

Netiquette Rules

Netiquette rules:

  • Do not swear on the internet.
  • Apologize if you are in the wrong.
  • Don't be mean to other users because they are people too.
  • Only say things on the internet you would be able to say if they were standing in front of you.
  • Don't send mean emails or comments because it hurts peoples feelings.
  • Don't make flame wars (Mostly done deliberately), it gets people angry and upset.
  • Be aware of people who go around online trying to make people feel angry.
  • If you have a different name online e.g. bounchingboy21 your real identity will get found some day. So don't do mean things online.
  • Treat others the way you would like to be treated. If you do not want people to be mean to you think about what you are doing.
  • When talking to your elders do not send messages that use slang e.g. will c u aftr
  • school. wll be L8 2 school in the aftrnoon. Bye <3 :-). Some people will not understand.
  • Do not use all capitals when you are messaging people online. like this: HELLO MATE I HAVE MISSED YOU SO MUCH. HEY CAN YOU COME AND FIX MY COMPUTER IT IS BROKEN.
  • Before posting anything check your grammar spelling.
  • When you post something there will always be a trace of it somewhere. So when it is posted it is posted.
  • If you are somewhere e.g. the beach, and you take a picture of your team celebrating a game of volleyball, and you see someones face who was not meant to be in the photo. You need to cut out their face or ask perdition if it is okay to send it it to Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat or even twitter.

We are learning how to interact online in a kind, positive and helpful way.
How does Netiquette affect our relationships?
If we are not being responsible for what we do online, it can hurt peoples feelings and make them angry at us. We can lose friends if we do not use the rules of netiquette. If we do use them everyone will not be angry at us and will be kind. What you do to others they will do to you. So be nice.

Yellow poem

Yellow poem

Yellow are the lemons that send me to the heavens,
Yellow is the buttercup that attracts my pup.

Yellow is the kawhai that brings all the bees,

Yellow is the sandwich of butter and cheese.

Yellow is the banana that I see in my lunch,

Yellow is the custard I have for my brunch.
